A Brief History of Morning Star Chapter #591
Morning Star Chapter #591, Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliated, White Oak Grove Community, Greensboro, North Carolina was set up on November 19, 1954 by our Grand District Deputy, Sister Fontaine. Some of the members of Five Point Chapter #510, McLeansville, N.C. were used to serve in the stations during the initiation. Brother Thad Patrick served as Worthy Patron for the initiation. The Candidates were as follows: Mrs. Gladys Jenkins, Mrs. Eunisha McBride, Mrs. Marie Mitchell, Mrs. Susie Rankin, Mr. Clyde Stephens, and Robert Seible. The members who moved their membership from McLeansville, Five Point Chapter #510 were: Sister Rosena Hopkins, Sister Ethel Seible, Sister Bertha Moore, Sister Marienne C. Donnell, Sister Gladys Troxler, Sister Betty Stephens, and Sister Bernice Robinson. The Charter was signed on September 7, 1955. The officers were: Worthy Matron, Rosena Hopkins, Worthy Patron, Clyde Steven, Secretary, Marienne Donnell, And Treasurer, Susie Rankin. The members on roll when the charter was signed were 19.The meeting place was the Old Lodge Building, 2611 Assembly Road. A new Lodge building was built at the same location in 1979. The members of Morning Star Chapter took an active part financially in the building of the new Lodge and contributed financially until the mortgage was burned. The members continue to pay the Lodge a monthly fee to help with the maintenance of the Lodge. The Meeting Date was the Third Monday Night in each month and remains the same today.
